About Osteopathy

Osteopathy is a recognised system of diagnosis and manual therapy for muscle, joint, ligament, disc, tendon and postural problems, and many other conditions. The aim is to identify and treat the root causes of the pain and not just the symptoms. This helps reduce the chance of recurrence.

Initial consultation includes a case history, special tests such as blood pressure or a neurological examination (if required), an examination, a diagnosis of your problem, treatment, exercises and advice (if appropriate).

A variety of different manual techniques are used according to the case history and examination, and of course the patient’s preferences.  Exercises and advice will be tailored to suit your individual needs.

Techniques used include massage to tight and tired muscles, rhythmic joint articulation and stretching movements, and specific joint manipulation (separation of joints). Gentle balancing techniques such as cranial (involuntary mechanism) and functional treatments are also available.

Osteopathy is suitable for everyone.  If you have any doubts about your suitability for treatment please do not hesitate to contact me.
